How to connect the river to the city? What to do with the riverfront?
Do just small interventions that improves the conditions of using this public space.
Connections
I am proposing a temporary connection between Wawel and river bank by steel steps construction. Shortcut from Wawel to river bank and an accessibility between the castle and Smocza Jama. The construction is not attaching the historical walls. It is free standing spiral stairs fixed to the ground and stabilized by a consola on the top.
Floating pontoon is something between permanent and temporary construction. It is bringing a person as close as its posible to the river. Connection between an urban man and the water. At the same time, it is enlarging the narrow path so bikes and pedestrians can enjoy the way along the river.
Permanent constructions, stone steps and the path , are those one, which connects different levels of the promenade. Their position is based on shortcut footprints.
Furniture
All surfaces are made of Siberian pine wood which is comfortable to sit even during the winter, durable and gets a nice patina when it gets older. There are used different types of sitting for various types of gathering. I am preserving the existing benches with one change which is make a pavement below them.
Pavement
Regarding the pavement I am preserving the existing asphalt in case to not disturb the appearance of the whole riverbank even after the bridges. Most of the new granite cobblestone pavement is put on the place which already served as a shortcut (corners of the grass surfaces, lineal way connecting two levels of sidewalk, etc.)
